On Thursday 10th November, we held our first ever parents’ safeguarding evening. We decided to use this evening to raise awareness around online safety. Due to the increased use of social media and online activity, especially since COVID19, we as a safeguarding team identified the concerns we are dealing with on a day-to-day basis and wanted to offer parents and carers the opportunity to expand their knowledge and help them to increase their understanding around social media and online platforms.
We visited real scenarios which we have dealt with in school as a team and shared information around how parents can monitor social media groups and usage. We also helped parents to understand how we as a safeguarding team support students to keep safe online, and how we deal with day-to-day issues.
The evening was well attended, and positive feedback given by all. We also asked for suggestions from parents for the next evening which will be held in the spring term.
