We aim to develop students’ skills, talents and opportunities outside the classroom through our new enrichment programme. In 2021 we are launching:

Year 7/8 – The Shuttleworth Shield

Students complete three sections on their shield: skill, sport and volunteering. These opportunities will be facilitated in school and include activities such as cake decorating, a school newsletter, Couch to 5K, supporting the library, coding club and many sports. This is a pre-cursor to the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Year 9 – The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award

All students in Year 9 will be enrolled on this award and can achieve certificates for each skill area: skill, sport and volunteering. Each section is completed for 3 months with one extended to 6 months. Those who complete these elements can take part in the expedition and achieve the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. The activities will be facilitated in school but students can also complete elements out of school. Students can then move to the Silver Award at college or sixth form.

Year 10/11

Students will have the choice of activities such as sports or relaxing activities such as crafting. This is to support students’ wellbeing as they work hard through their GCSEs.
