Shuttleworth College seeks to ensure that all of its students reach their full potential by encouraging good attendance and punctuality.
It is fundamental that regular school attendance is achieved if children and young people are to maximise the educational opportunities available to them. Irregular attendance disrupts learning, and leads to underachievement and low attainment.
If a student is absent through illness, or for other reasons, parents/carers should ring the college by 9.30 am on the first day of absence, and keep the college informed if the illness is prolonged. If we are not informed then contact will be made by text, telephone calls and letters requesting the reason for absence.
Doctors/dental appointments should not be made during college time wherever possible, but if students have to be out of college, an appointment card must be produced on signing out at the attendance office.
Government and DFE changes to legislation on student attendance mean that from September 2013, Headteachers may not grant leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
As such, College cannot authorise any holiday leave as of 1st September 2013 and any parent /carer who does take their child away will be issued with a fixed penalty fine by the Courts.
